The Golden Nugget of Las Vegas recently played host to the 2020 Free Poker Network (FPN) King Slayer National Championship Main Event. The tournament was open to state tournament qualifiers as well as satellite qualifiers, League Champ Championship and other players. In the end, it was Thomas Gjerde who outlasted the 202 player field to win the title and $25,000 in prize money.
Tournament Details:
The Free Poker Network started in 2005 and offers a free-to-play bar poker league hosted across the United States. Over 7,000 players are active within the network and take part in gaming at 200 locations. During this past weekend, hundreds of players were in Las Vegas to play in the league.
The League Champ Championship began on Friday night and it was open to specific players, those who won a Tournament of Champions as well as league winners. Players competed to win $10,000 as well as move on to the King Slayer Championship Main Event. Gjerde was one of those players.

Gjerde has played poker for over 50 years after learning the game from his parents when he was just 12 years of age. The 71 year old has continued to play over the years and visited the Golden Nugget this weekend in the hopes of earning the win, especially finishing second during the FPN Main Event last summer. He was able to outlast the field and take down the win, outlasting players from across the United States.
